EXP 2- First attempt at UnrealEd

These two screenshots are from my first attempt at using the UnrealEd software. They are 3D interpretations of the axonometric I drew, based on Jacques Yves Cousteau's idea of "protection." After constructing some simple shapes of various sizes, I played around with the lighting to see the effects of light and shadow.

The following 9 axonometrics are based on Keith Campbell''s idea of "cloning," thus there are repetitions of rectangular prisms (both in the same, and different sizes) to convey this idea.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau

The following 9 axonometrics explore the idea of "protection," as I have been influenced Jacques-Yves Cousteau's view towards protecting not only the environment, but the world we live in as a whole. Here, some of the rectangular prisms are seen to be inserted into one another, reinforcing this idea of "protection."

Alfred Nobel

“It is my express wish that in awarding the prizes no consideration whatever shall be given to the nationality of the candidates, but that the most worthy shall receive the prize, whether
he be Scandinavian or not”.

Nobel’s main intention and criteria was to award those worthy of his prizes, and did not hope that prizes were determined on the basis of one’s background.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau

"Humans exist because, our planet, the earth, is the only planet where life can exist. And the reason life exists is because our planet is a 'hydroplanet'. Water is as scarce in the universe as life is, and perhaps we could say that water is synonymous with life. But water is not only rare and valuable; it is also unique, with many exclusive physical and chemical properties. This unique nature, accompanied by dynamic interactions of many elements in the universal 'hydrosystem', of which the sun and the oceans are the driving forces, allowed life to originate. Ocean means LIFE."

This quote reveals Cousteau’s awareness that our existence is dependent on water, and shows his concern in protecting this scarce substance.

Keith Campbell

"I want to try to explain to people...the positive uses for this technology, the benefits that it may have for human therapeutic medicine and improving the quality of life for people with certain genetic disorders."

Campbell implies in this quote that cloning is the key to solving many mysteries involved with scientific research and that it has the potential to assist in scientific development concerning humans.

Week 4: Final Design

Here are three different views, showing the exterior of the above space ground made out of glass. This space responds to the word "chaotic", hence I have manipulated, extruded and twisted the surface areas to make parts jut out and appear "chaotic".

This is an x-ray view of Fiona Hall's ground space inspired by the word "suspended." Compared to last week's model, this developed model has an extra cylindrical base at the bottom with wires linking it back to the top of the ground space. As you can see, the inside ground space does not touch the ground of the outer space. I decided to do this to make it seem as though the ground space is suspended within another space.
